Barefoot Fun Run in Central Florida

It's been over a year since I've been running barefoot. In addition to my regular training runs, I've run in seven or eight road races with an aggregate total of probably 45,000 runners. In all of that time, I've only crossed paths with three other barefoot-style runners. (Central Florida residents tend to be just as conservative with their running as they are with their politics, I guess.) While I am certainly happy to be in a minuscule minority, I've often mused on how nice it would be if there were a community of barefoot-style runners nearby. Why should New York have all the fun?

Well, it seems that the beginnings of a Central Florida barefoot running community might be right around the corner. Travel Country, this area's authorized Vibram FiveFingers dealer, is sponsoring its First Annual Barefoot Fun Run on November 13. The store hasn't yet published a map of the course but at least part of the run will take place on the Seminole Wekiva Trail, hands down one of the best barefoot running tracks in the state.

My buddy, Michael Sandler, author of Barefoot Running, will be there. I'll be there. So, the only question remaining is... Will you be there?
